There are some basic tips you can use to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines on your face and give you a younger more vibrant appearance. Read on for details.
As your skin ages and exposure to toxins and sunlight begins to take a toll on your overall appearance, plastic surgery is not always the best answer, though certainly the most expensive one. Here are some basic tips on how to minimize the development and appearance of wrinkles and facial lines.
Long Term Skincare
Sleep is your first defense. Make sure to get plenty of sleep. Though it can be a major challenge to get eight or more hours each night, catch up by getting a few extra hours one night each week on a regular regimen. Say, every Friday night you go to bed an hour earlier and get up an hour later.
Stay away from excessive alcohol use. This not only dries out the skin when it robs the body of moisture, but it significantly contributes to spots and lines forming on the face over time.
Don't smoke or be near people who do smoke while they are doing it. If someone in your household smokes, request that he only do so outside. Take a close look at an older smoker and you will inevitably see the early development of lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone on the face. Tobacco is poison to the skin and the body.
Avoid airborne toxins. These include too much sun, smog or industrial smoke and oil, as in a manufacturing plant. Using a daily moisturizer that has SPF 30 or more is a good idea, but also wear a hat that covers your face when you are outdoors for longer than an hour.
On the other end of the spectrum, water is the fountain of youth to the skin if you remember to drink eight glasses of water per day or more. You can count things like green tea and juices as part of that quota, but not sodas, caffeine and alcohol, as these fluids have countering negative effects on the skin.
Good nutrition and a balanced diet will have a positive effect on skin tone and elasticity.
Do not over wash your face. Once per day is fine, as long as you also remove any make up before bed. Over washing will drain the face of natural oils and lubricants that keep your skin young looking and glowing. Pat the skin gently to dry with a clean towel. Then, generously apply moisturizer immediately after washing. Less expensive brands are fine such as Nivea and Oil of Olay. If you like Clinique or whatever, that is fine too. The frequency of use is more important than the brand of the product.
Use as little makeup as possible, or none at all, if your skin is in good condition. Many women who do not need liquid or powdered products, use them anyway and often look too "made up". As you age, less is more, since makeup, liner and eyeshadow sometimes bring out fine lines that would otherwise be less obvious. This is a matter of taste, but if you tend to wear heavy makeup, try to use less of these products and you might be surprised to get compliments that you look better without it.
Short Term Fixes
If you need to look really good for a party or event, here are some ideas on how to make your skin vibrant and as lineless as possible for a few hours.
In addition to getting great hydration the day before and the day of the event, lie down for thirty minutes or so and place freshly-cut cucumber slices over your eyes. This will plump up the eye area with moisture without causing puffiness.
Some women swear by the use of hemorrhoidal cream as a way to reduce wrinkles, particularly around the eyes. This will last for the night, but may not be safe for daily use, because of other chemicals in the product. There are also eye gels that will temporarily mask wrinkles and lines. These are more costly than moisturizer, but provide a few hours of more supple skin.
Keep in mind that lines and wrinkles on the face are a natural part of the aging process. Minimizing their severity is fine, but trying to remove them with surgery will not stop time and may have an unnatural and unattractive results.
