If you're looking for ways to turn back the clock without taking time away from work, this procedure may be for you.
It’s often called a "lunch time" peel. But the results will last way past lunch, into dinner and maybe for years to come. If you spent a lot of time in the sun as a kid, you’re probably noticing the effects now. Superficial chemical peels help remove the fine lines and skin roughness associated with photo aging. Peels also remove early patches of scaly skin that become Actinic Keratoses (lesions that may be the beginning of skin cancer.) And over time, these peels may also improve Rosacea in some patients. Superficial chemical peels may not work on deep acne scars or deep wrinkles. For those, you might want to look at more intense treatments like dermabrasion or a deeper chemical peel. How does a chemical peel work?Your doctor will apply chemical exfoliating agents to your skin. This removes old skin cells so that new ones can develop. Who is qualified to perform a chemical peel?Look for a dermatologist or a dermatologic surgeon who is board certified. Who is a candidate for a superficial chemical peel?
The "lunch time peel" is referred to as superficial chemical peeling, because you won’t undergo deep peeling. But it is still a medical procedure. You need to follow your doctor’s instructions and avoid sun exposure while you heal. Does a superficial chemical peel work on all skin types? It is appropriate for all skin types, but people with darker skin may notice a temporary loss of pigmentation. What products are used for the procedure? The peeling agent is usually an alpha-hydroxy acid like glycolic or lactic acid. Both are derived from natural sources. What are the side effects? You’ll probably notice skin redness and maybe a slight swelling that lasts for a day or two. Your doctor may prescribe a post-procedure medication or ointment., How long does the procedure take?Usually less than an hour, that’s why it’s called a lunch time peel. Don’t expect it to turn back the clock completely. But if you keep getting peels once every 4-6 weeks, you may notice a decrease in lines and wrinkles.
